CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey, South Carolina results (released March 2, 2026). Monthly figures are the annual medians divided by 12. Home care is priced at 44 hours a week for 52 weeks (about $31.37 an hour). CareScout's South Carolina release publishes statewide medians only: there is no Greenville-only figure and no memory care figure.
South Carolina ranks 37th of the states for assisted living cost in that survey, so Upstate prices tend to sit below national averages. Individual quotes vary widely with apartment size, the level-of-care fee and whether the building is a 10-bed residential home or a large purpose-built community. Always ask for the base rent and the care fee separately, in writing.
How much does a nursing home cost in South Carolina?
CareScout's 2025 South Carolina medians are $108,405 a year for a semi-private nursing home room, about $9,034 a month, and $115,340 a year for a private room, about $9,612 a month.
Most long-stay nursing home residents in the Upstate eventually rely on Healthy Connections Medicaid, because few families can sustain those costs for long. Medicare pays only for short skilled stays after a qualifying hospital admission. See Medicaid and nursing home care and what Medicare covers.
What does home care cost per hour in the Greenville area?
CareScout's 2025 South Carolina median for a non-medical home care worker is $71,786 a year at 44 hours a week, which works out to about $31 an hour or $5,982 a month, up 5% from 2024.
The hourly figure is what makes the home care versus assisted living comparison concrete. Below about 40 hours a week, paid help at home usually costs less than the assisted living median; above it, home care costs more, and around-the-clock care at home costs several times as much.

| 50 | $6,717 | more |
| 60 | $8,060 | more |
| 84 | $11,284 | more |

How much does adult day care cost in South Carolina?
CareScout's 2025 South Carolina median for adult day health care five days a week is $18,720 a year, about $1,560 a month, the least expensive paid care option in the survey.
DPH licenses 17 adult day care facilities in the four counties, with licensed capacity for 1,058 participants in all. Many families use adult day care to keep a parent at home while they work, often combined with a few hours of in-home help in the evening. Community Choices waiver members can receive adult day health care as a waiver service.
Is there a published price for memory care in Greenville?
No. CareScout's survey does not report memory care separately, and neither South Carolina nor any Greenville source publishes a memory care median, so any specific figure you see quoted is a single facility's price or an estimate.
Memory care in a CRCF's Alzheimer's special care unit usually costs more than standard assisted living in the same building, because of the secured environment and extra staffing. Ask for the full monthly cost in writing, including any dementia-care fee, and ask how the price changes as needs increase. The written disclosure required by South Carolina's Alzheimer's Special Care Disclosure Act should describe costs beyond basic care.
