Which South Carolina counties does Greenville Senior Advisor cover?

We cover four Upstate counties: Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Laurens, the core of the Greenville-Anderson metropolitan area, all licensed by the same state agency and all part of South Carolina's Healthy Connections Medicaid program.

Do all four counties use the same aging agency?

No. Greenville, Anderson and Pickens counties are served by the Appalachian Council of Governments Area Agency on Aging in Greenville, while Laurens County belongs to the Upper Savannah Council of Governments region based in Greenwood.

That split also determines which regional long-term care ombudsman handles a complaint and which office does in-home services assessments. Spartanburg, Oconee and Cherokee counties share the Appalachian region but are outside our directory.

Which county has the oldest population?

Laurens County: 20.9% of its residents were 65 or older in 2025 Census estimates, with a median age of 41.6, compared with 20.2% in Anderson, 19.2% in Pickens and 18.7% in Greenville County.

Laurens County also has the fewest licensed beds and is the one county not covered by the Upstate PACE program, so many Laurens families weigh care in Clinton or Laurens against Simpsonville and Fountain Inn.

Where is most of the region's licensed senior care?

In Greenville County: Greenville and its surrounding cities hold most of the four counties' senior-serving CRCFs, nursing homes, home health agencies, hospices and in-home care agencies, while Anderson has a strong second cluster and Pickens and Laurens a handful each.

Each county page lists every licensed facility and the straight-line distance from the county seat to the nearest hospitals and to downtown Greenville.

How many older adults live in the four counties?

Census Bureau estimates put 194,845 residents aged 65 and older in Greenville, Anderson, Pickens and Laurens counties on July 1, 2025, including 19,894 aged 85 and older, the group most likely to need help with daily activities.

Greenville County holds most of those older residents in absolute numbers, but Anderson and Laurens counties have higher shares of residents 65 and older. That is why the outer counties so often compare local options with facilities in Simpsonville, Easley or Greenville's Eastside.
